The primary mission of the G. Robert Strauss, Jr. Memorial Library is to support the research needs of Gallery staff and affiliates.
Public use of the Library is a privilege of Gallery membership. The Library is open to our Members by appointment only on Fridays from 3 – 5 p.m. Please call 716.270.8240 at least one day in advance. As a research collection, circulation is limited to Gallery staff only. We are open to Gallery Members as a reading library only.
Telephone, mail, and email inquires are only accepted from those researchers residing outside the metropolitan area with advanced projects in contemporary art.
Digital access is also provided through AKat, the online catalogue of the Albright-Knox Art Gallery (akat.albrightknox.org), which allows for basic and advanced searching of the Library’s rich and varied holding. The Library likewise participates in initiatives to make portions of its collections more accessible to the community, including projects to digitize Gallery publications such as Academy Notes, historic exhibition catalogues, and unique archival materials. The Library reading room offers two terminals with connections to the Internet and access to its online subscription databases.
