1997 Engel, Gerrit. Problematik: American Museum: Architektur.  This proposal to turn Concrete Central into an American museum includes written text with architectural drawings and is in the Artist's Subject File in the G. Robert Strauss, Jr. Memorial Library, Albright-Knox Art Gallery.

1975 Begins taking photographs with the encouragement of his mother, a photographer.
1986-

Apprentices with a cabinetmaker.
1990-
   97
Studies architecture at Technical University, Munich, under Uwe Kiessler. Receives graduate degree.
1994-
   96
Studies photography and architecture at City College of New York, under a scholarship from Technical University, Munich.  Works at the Art Commission of the City of New York.
1995 Travels to Buffalo for the first time.  Investigates and photographs the Buffalo grain elevators.
1996-
   97
Travels to Buffalo twice to take more photographs and to study construction plans and literature on the grain elevators at Buffalo¹s City Hall and Buffalo and Erie County Public Library, downtown branch.

Develops a concept and architectural plan to revitalize Concrete Central. [Built 1915-17, Concrete Central is one of the earliest types of elevators made from ranks of concrete cylinders rather than the traditional structures of wood, brick, or steel. The most monumental of all the thirteen extant elevators, according to the Buffalo Architecture Guide, it is also one of the most photographed, and therefore, one of best-known to European architects.]

Works as an architectural photographer, focusing more and more on his own projects.
