Fresh: Recent Acquisitions brings together a selection of paintings, photographs, works on paper, and sculpture acquired by the Albright-Knox Art Gallery within the last five years. Fresh is the first exhibition since 1997 to showcase the Gallery's ever-expanding collection. The discovery of promising young artists and the acquisition of their work before they have been established by history as masters has always been the lifeblood of the Albright-Knox. The Gallery's legendary benefactor, Seymour H. Knox, was famously said to have bought art while "the paint was still wet,” a tradition that continues to this day. Consequently, the Gallery has built its reputation and a spectacular collection of modern and contemporary masterpieces by collecting ahead of the curve, a risky, yet rewarding endeavor.
