Doris Salcedo's memorials of broken furniture and concrete address the disappearances and deaths that permeate life in this artist's native Colombia as a result of contemporary civil and drug wars. One chest of drawers collides into a second representing the violence of everyday existence. A structure that once held valuable possessions is filled with an impenetrable, extremely heavy weight, analogous to the hearts, lives, and country of those involved in violence and a county left in shambles.
