Space describes the way areas are divided. When one attempts to represent space in painting and photography, the two-dimensional plane is sectioned off into smaller areas. In a landscape painting, these areas might become the foreground, middle ground, and background. In a geometric work, these areas could be a complex arrangement of shapes or the way blocks of color work together. For the artists represented in this section of the exhibition, representations of space are offered to recreate the sensory experience of being in a physical environment.
