Following a Line: Part One
September 22 - December 27, 2001
From unpretentious jottings and abbreviated notations, to independent works in their own right, drawings provide a great deal of information about a particular artists creative process. Also described as works on paper, drawings compose a significant part of the Albright-Knox Art Gallerys permanent collection. Following a Line, the title for two consecutive exhibitions in the Clifton Hall Link, celebrated this special collection, which is often kept out of view due to sensitivity to light and environmental conditions. Part One included works ranging from a stellar ink drawing, Landscape of the Megaliths, 1937, by the English surrealist Paul Nash, to an ink and watercolor drawing for an earth project, 1969, by Robert Morris. The diversity of the Gallerys collection of drawings was reflected in this exhibition, which was on view through December 27.
