School in a Museum is a partnership between Windermere Elementary School and the Albright-Knox Art Gallery. Third grade students visited the Albright-Knox Art Gallery for five, consecutive, ninety-minute sessions. After exploring artworks in the permanent collection, they participated in a writing experience with the guidance of Gallery docents (guides) and the involvement of classroom teachers. A journal including sketches, notes and creative writings was kept by each student. Teachers worked to integrate the Gallery visits into the classroom curriculum, providing continuity for the students and a deep understanding of visual art as an educational tool for themselves.
