Art and Yoga for Fun and Relaxation
Saturdays, January 9, 16, 23, 30, and February 6, 13

Experience art, yoga, and the many connections between the two in an hour of yoga and meditative practice for six weekly sessions. Learn about the Gallery’s Permanent Collection in a different art-filled location each week. Each session will begin with a 15-minute introduction to the artwork in the yoga space by a Gallery Guide. Leanne Oldenbrook, certified yoga instructor, will then lead a class exploring different aspects of yoga. Every session will include stretching, strengthening, and relaxation poses and end with an art-inspired meditation. Beginner to advanced students are welcome. Participants meet at the Elmwood Avenue entrance five minutes before class time. Wear comfortable clothing and bring your own mat if you have one; otherwise, one will be provided.

Enjoy the ambiance of the “Finishing Room” under the glow of Yvonne’s custom-made reproduction of the Butterfly Chandelier, originally designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. A brief history and understanding of glass as a medium and the various ways it has evolved will be discussed. In addition, the processes and methods of stained glass construction and various glass types will be demonstrated. Drinks and hors d’oeuvres will be served as guests interact with the artist and are allowed hands-on experiences.

Enjoy drinks and hors d’oeuvres in the Gallery’s restaurant, muse, followed by an interactive tour of the exhibition ROBERT MANGOLD Beyond the Line: Paintings and Project 2000–2008. The exhibition features work by the locally born and internationally known artist, as well as plans for the stained glass windows he designed for the United States Courthouse in downtown Buffalo, scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2010.

Participants will learn the basic techniques for using watercolor paints and create their own small masterpiece to take home and frame. This evening will also incorporate the art of wine tasting and food pairing. Come, relax, draw, sip, and enjoy!

Enjoy drinks and hors d’oeuvres in the Gallery’s restaurant, muse, followed by an interactive tour of the special exhibition Guillermo Kuitca: Everything, Paintings and Works on Paper, 1980–2008. Kuitca is an Argentine artist known for his innovative methods of working with watercolor and other painting and drawing media.
