Classes, Workshops, and Lectures

For Kids

Art with Artists Classes
Encourage your child’s love of art with our Art with Artists classes. In each of these classes, taught by local artists and arts educators, students will visit works in the Gallery and create hands-on art projects in the classroom.

For Teens

AK Teens Portfolio Review Day

The AK Teens Portfolio Review sessions will give Western New York high school students in grades nine through twelve the opportunity to have their work reviewed and critiqued by area artists and fine arts professors. Early review and critique of work provides a key advantage for students planning on pursuing a degree in the visual arts and eventual careers in the art world. Students will be able to ask questions about their work and seek guidance and advice on attending college art programs and pursuing careers as artists. Participation is free, but registration is required by Thursday, April 10, 2014.

AK Teens Building a Portfolio Art Class
This intensive, two-week art class, taught by an artist, is intended for students who are becoming serious about the visual arts and/or preparing for college applications. The emphasis will be on developing skills and style in drawing, painting, and sculpture. We are offering two sessions: A morning session (9 am–noon) and an afternoon session (1–4 pm). Both sessions are open to students who will be entering grades 9–12 in September 2014.

Director's Lecture Series
All About Museums: A Brief History from Renaissance Cabinets of Curiosity to Contemporary Hubs of Creativity, 1400–Present

This series of six lectures, designed and presented by Albright-Knox Art Gallery Director Dr. Janne Sirén, will provide a unique opportunity to learn about the history of museums and their development from the Renaissance to the present.

Adult Studio Art Workshop—Anselm Kiefer: Beyond Landscape
This exciting workshop on Saturday, April 12, 2014, begins with a guided tour of the exhibition Anselm Kiefer: Beyond Landscape. Participants will then have the opportunity to sketch in the exhibition galleries before returning to the classroom, where a broad range of materials, from paint to found objects, will be provided for each participant to create their own landscape inspired by Kiefer’s work.
This workshop will be repeated on June 21, 2014, and August 9, 2014.
