Art with Artists Classes

Summer 2013

During each day of these week-long sessions, students will visit works in the Gallery and create hands-on art projects in the classroom. Additionally students in some of the classes will have the opportunity to participate in activities outside (weather permitting) and explore elements of music with an instructor from the Community Music School or elements of drama and expression with a staff member from Shea’s Performing Arts Center. A snack will be provided daily for students in the Art Explorers and Adventures in Art classes.

For Children Age 4–Entering Grade 2 

Art Explorers: Let’s Make Art*

Art Explorers: Ready, Set, Art*
Monday, August 12–Friday, August 16, 2013, 9 am–noon

Children will learn about art as they visit the Gallery and use a variety of fun materials to make artful and playful creations of their own. Monday through Thursday, students will also enjoy music workshops in which they will learn the art of musical expression.

* Parents can sign children up for either Art Explorers session, or both sessions. Lessons and activities will be different each week.

For Children Entering Grades 3–6 

Adventures in Art
Monday, August 5–Friday, August 9, 2013, 1–4 pm

Drama Instructor: Jennifer Fitzery, Shea’s Performing Arts Center

After exploring the Gallery’s Collection, students will return to the classroom to develop their artistic process and create works of their own using a variety of mediums and techniques, including painting, drawing, and sculpture. Monday through Thursday, children will also enjoy theater workshops in which they will use dramatic techniques to discover art in a new way.

For Students Entering Grades 7–8 

The Summer Studio: Spotlight on Special Exhibitions
Monday, August 12–Friday, August 16, 2013, 1–4 pm
$150 for Members / $200 for non-members
Instructor: Nicole Ritchy

Students will spend time exploring the Gallery exhibitions Sweet Dreams, Baby! Life of Pop, London to Warhol and Robert Therrien. Drawing inspiration from works featured in these special exhibitions, students will create works of art in different mediums through experimentation with a variety of approaches and artistic techniques. 

Registration

Classes are limited to twenty students. Registration and pre-payment are required. To register, please complete and mail the Art with Artists Summer Registration Form or call 716.270.8292. Confirmation of registration will be sent by email one week before class begins. 

The deadline for registration is Wednesday, July 17, 2013. The Albright-Knox Art Gallery reserves the right to cancel classes due to low registration numbers.
