Call for Docents

Do you love studying and discussing art? Do you like sharing your passion for art with others? You may want to consider becoming a docent! Docents are volunteers specially trained to guide groups on tours of the Gallery. Administered through the Education department, the program includes an intensive months-long training in art history and tour techniques.

The 2010–2011 training course will take place on Saturday mornings from 9 am to 12:30 pm from September 11, 2010 through March 12, 2011.

The 2010-2011 docent class is now full. No further applications will be accepted.

• Enthusiasm for art
• Availability to give tours on at least one weekday, Tuesday through Friday
• Love of sharing knowledge with people of all ages
• Ability to discuss rather than lecture
• Continuing quest for knowledge
• Commitment of two tours per week for two years after the training has been completed
• Email access

You don't need a background in art history—that's what we're here for!

• Annual fall dinner
• Annual spring reception
• Volunteer appreciation evenings
• Continuing education by the Education department, Gallery curators, and sometimes even artists
• Being part of a vibrant and exciting group!
