During the 1960s, Op artists created art that focused on knowledge about perception, including optical illusions, and often placed a premium on dazzling effects rooted in the science of vision. Contemporary artists who look back to Op for inspiration are creating effects in a variety of media that their predecessors could only have imagined. Explore this showcase of the Gallery’s collection of Op art, both old and new, and find ways to make connections between art, science, and more through the experience of these dizzying works.
