The School of Art Knox: Literacy and Learning through Art (Education Exhibition)
Tuesday, May 21–Wednesday, June 19, 2013
On View in the Education Exhibition Hallway
During the 2012–2013 school year, the dual focus of Rosemary Lyons’s art classes at Riverside High School involved the City of Buffalo and literacy. Lyons’s goal was to strengthen her students’ awareness of and appreciation for the great cultural venues we have in our city. This year, the students used Albright-Knox Art Gallery catalogues as a springboard for their own investigations into art and literacy. Inspired by works in the Gallery’s Collection, the students created paintings, drawings, sculpture, embroidery, and rugs. At the end of their projects, the students went back to the catalogues and wrote texts that described what the original artist did and how they themselves reinterpreted the works.
An opening reception will be held on Friday, June 7, from 5 to 7 pm.
Admission to this exhibition is free on M&T FIRST FRIDAYS @ THE GALLERY.
The museum is closed. Please visit us tomorrow between 10 am and 5 pm.
