Photography by Women Artists
Friday, May 28–Sunday, June 27, 2010
Photography by Women Artists, focused entirely on photographs created by women, is designed to challenge our notion of the female perspective. This intimate installation will feature a dozen photographic works from the Gallery's Permanent Collection by Shirin Neshat, Angela Grauerholz, Sharon Lockhart, Gillian Wearing, and Carrie Mae Weems. It will include works from Weems's "Colored People Series" and Wearing's renowned self-portraits in which she transforms herself into various members of her family. As the title suggests, Photography by Women Artists celebrates a wide range of female talent in a mostly male-dominated contemporary medium.
