110 years after F.Scott Fitzgerald moved to Buffalo, celebrate his contributions to history by viewing The Great Gatsby starring Robert Redford and Mia Farrow, based on Fitzgerald’s novel considered by many as the quintessential American story that characterized the Jazz Age.

1920’s Jazz with The Brian Bauer Trio

Put your moves to work! Now that you’ve learned the steps, shimmy and shake to this live musical performance of 1920’s Jazz.

Animals at the Albright-Knox

Come see and learn about live animals when the Buffalo Zoo Mobile and Hawk Creek Wildlife Foundation make a visit to the Albright-Knox.

Art Activity: Palio

Eagle, Caterpillar, Giraffe, Dragon - you name it. Design and dress up in your favorite guild’s animal costume in honor of the Italian Palio horse races, which happen in Siena in July and August each year to determine the strongest city wards.

Family Film: Madagascar (2005). Directed by Eric Darnell and Tom McGrath (86 mins.)

Enjoy this animated flick, which stars Marty, a zebra with hopes of seeing the world outside of the New York City Central Park Zoo where he lives. With his pals Alex the lion, Melman the giraffe and Gloria the hippopotamus, Marty sets out to discover the world. Featuring the voices of Ben Stiller (Alex), Chris Rock (Marty), and Jada Pinkett Smith (Gloria).

Words on Paper: Readings by Artists from the Forman Collection

With an introduction by Susana Tejada, Head of Research Resources.
A selection of letters from the Formans' personal archive will be read, revealing the couple's acute sense for acquiring the art of their time, as well as the close relationships they have built over the years with many of the artists represented in their collection.

The Sundry Music Festival

Art Activity: The Amazing Art Illusion

Mystify your friends by creating your own optical illusion! Mix images of famous artworks together and add your own abstraction with a variety of mirrored materials to transform your work into a three dimentional mobile — making artwork that changes as it moves!

Performance: West of Odessa

Odessa, Ukraine has a history of being one of the most culturally diverse port cities in Eastern Europe. The Buffalo-based duo, West of Odessa draws its musical inspiration from that spirit with Klezmer, Hassidic, Moldavian, Carpathian, and Balkan melodies.

6 p.m.
Performance: Karamfil Balkan Folk Orchestra

Traditional music from the Balkans with exquisite melodies and driving rhythms that make you want to dance. The band plays on traditional instruments: the kaval, an end-blown flute, gadulka, gajda, tambura, and tupan.

7:30 p.m. Performance: trioPAYAZZO
American and Gypsy Jazz, Tango, Bossa nova, Samba and original compositions with unique improvisation and energy. Andrew Peruzzini on flugelhorn and percussion, Bernard Kunz on guitars and Harry Fackelman on soprano saxophone.

Dusk (roughly 8:30 pm)
Performance and Film

Squeaky Wheel presents a new score for Strike (1925) composed and performed by local musician David Kane. In Sergei Eisenstein's cinematic debut, the suicide of a worker unjustly accused of theft prompts the laborers working at a Moscow factory to call a strike.
