Film: Following James Joyce, Dublin to Buffalo, 2004. Directed by Patrick Martin and Stacey Herbert (60 minutes).
Filmed in Dublin, Paris, Trieste, Zurich, and Buffalo, this film reveals how James Joyce wrote his great works, and how his manuscripts came to Western New York.

Two hit men are sent to the medieval city of Bruges to hide out following a botched assignment, where they take in the sights and struggle with their philosophies on life and death. Starring Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson, and Ralph Fiennes, this dark comedy was nominated for numerous awards, including an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay.

Irish-born author Colum McCann will read selections from his novel Everything in This Country Must and his recent work.

Film: Everything in This Country Must, 2005. Directed by Gary McKendry, screenplay by McKendry and Colum McCann (20 minutes).
Set against the backdrop of the British occupation of Northern Ireland in 1985, this Oscar-nominated film tells the story of a teenage girl who must choose between allegiance to her Catholic father and gratitude to the British soldiers who save the family’s horse. A question-and-answer session and book signing with Colum McCann will follow the screening.

Artist Lecture: Stanford Lipsey
Affinity of Form: Photographs by Stanford Lipsey
Stanford Lipsey has nurtured a lifelong passion for photography throughout his career in journalism. Join the artist for an illustrated lecture on his work, in which he explores the visual similarities and contrasts between disparate forms, both natural and manmade.
The exhibition Affinity of Form: Photographs by Stanford Lipsey will be on view in the Collectors Gallery through Sunday, August 16, 2009. The exhibition is made possible through the leadership support of Jaeckle Fleischmann & Mugel, LLP; Elisabeth Roche Wilmers and Robert Wilmers; and Leslie and Howard Zemsky; with additional support from Donna and Frank McGuire.
Please note: Due to this evening’s special activities, there will be no parking at the Gallery. Parking will be available at Buffalo State College.
