cutting edge and emerging scholars. Organized in collaboration with
University at Buffalo Humanites Institute and Riverrun, Inc.

stylized version of rituals from his native land, accompanied by the
Vores 12 piece orchestra.

Keynote Speaker: Shanghai Kate
With special guest Lyle Tuttle
Legendary tattoo artist Shanghai Kate Hellenbrand will discuss the
history of tattoo art from ancient Rome to “Sailor Jerry” Norman Keith
Collins. Special guest Lyle Tuttle, the iconic grandfather of tattooing
as we know it, joins a panel discussion of heavily tattooed
enthusiasts. A question and answer session and book signing will follow
Shanghai Kate's discussion. Seating is limited; free tickets are
available at the Admissions Desk beginning at 3 pm.

Nickel City Poetry Slam with Brian Ellis
The new season kicks off with Boston slam poet Brian Ellis, who began
performing in 2006 and has since been featured in poetry and music
venues on both coasts. Afterwards, local spoken word artists compete
for a cash prize and a chance to perform with Buffalo’s own Poetry Slam
Team. Signup: 7:30 pm, on a first come, first served basis.

Frank Lloyd Wright’s contributions of design and architecture to Western New York are extensive. Join us to discuss Wright and the influence Japan and Japanese culture had on his work with University of Oregon Professor of Architecture and author of Frank Lloyd Wright and Japan, Kevin Nute. Enjoy an architectural tour of the exterior of the Gallery and the Japanese Gardens at Delaware Park before participating in a traditional Japanese tea ceremony.

Architectural Tours
Join us for a walking tour of Lincoln Parkway, the Japanese Gardens at Delaware Park, and the Historical Society building. Tours will depart from the Delaware Stairs behind the Gallery and last approximately 45 minutes. Space is limited; please arrive early to avoid disappointment and bring weather appropriate gear.

One of the most beautiful avenues in Olmsted's park system, Lincoln Parkway was a magnet for lavish homes built by many prominent Buffalonians in the early 1900s.

Japanese Garden and the Historical Society building
The only permanent structure left from the 1901 Pan Am Exposition, the Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society building is a neoclassical structure modeled on the Parthenon. Enjoy the serene ambiance of the Japanese Garden in Delaware Park, a gift from Kanazawa, Japan, one of Buffalo's sister cities.

Demonstration: Japanese Tea Ceremony
The Japanese tea ceremony is a highly developed ritual of hospitality and mutual respect, bringing together many arts such as ceramics, painting, calligraphy, flower arrangement, and architecture. Enjoy a demonstration of this traditional art form and experience its serenity and meditation.

Frank Lloyd Wright's contributions of design and architecture to Western New York are extensive. Join us to discuss Wright and the influence Japan and Japanese culture had on his work with Dr. Kevin Nute, University of Oregon Professor of Architecture and author of Frank Lloyd Wright and Japan. Be sure to visit the Gallery Shop for a copy of Nute's book, as there will be a book signing following the lecture. Seating for this event is limited; free tickets are available at the Admissions Desk beginning at 3 pm.
Hip Hop returns to the Albright-Knox Art Gallery to continue celebrating its genuine and rich culture through art, music, and dance. This year’s performance will feature some of the most notable and award-winning Hip Hop acts in Western New York from DJs to breakers, artists and emcees. Enjoy live performances and demonstrations throughout the evening as we toast to "Hip Hop" and “art.”
