Captured: Members’ Reception for Spring 2013 Exhibitions
February 18, 2013
On Friday, February 15, the Gallery hosted a Members’ Reception celebrating four recently opened special exhibitions: Agnes Martin: The New York–Taos Connection (1947–1957), Dennis Maher: House of Collective Repair, Kelly Richardson: Legion, and Looking Out and Looking In: A Selection of Contemporary Photography.
The evening included tours led by the exhibitions’ artists and curators. Chief Curator Douglas Dreishpoon and Harwood Museum of Art Curator of Collections and Exhibitions Jina Brenneman, who organized Agnes Martin, discussed Martin’s work; Dennis Maher and Associate Curator of Education Nancy Spector, who organized House of Collective Repair, talked about Maher’s artist-in-residence project; Kelly Richardson and Curator for the Collection Holly E. Hughes, who organized the Buffalo stop of Kelly Richardson: Legion, explored Richardson’s working process; and Curator of Education Mariann Smith led guests through Looking Out and Looking In, which she organized.
A second Members’ Reception will take place this Thursday, February 21. A science fiction film festival organized by Richardson and Hughes will be presented as part of M&T FIRST FRIDAYS @ THE GALLERY on Friday, March 1, and workshops for families, adults, and educators are scheduled throughout the spring as part of the Artist-in-Residence program (please check the House of Collective Repair page for details).
The museum is closed. Please visit us tomorrow between 10 am and 5 pm.
