On Thursday, March 29, the Gallery hosted a Members’ Preview and Reception for the special exhibition Wish You Were Here: The Buffalo Avant-garde in the 1970s, organized by Albright-Knox Curator Heather Pesanti.
The evening included tours of the seven sections of the exhibition led by Michael Basinski, for the University at Buffalo's English Department; Lawrence Brose, for CEPA; Edmund Cardoni, for Hallwalls; Albright-Knox Chief Curator Douglas Dreishpoon, for the Albright-Knox; Renée Levine Packer, for the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and the Creative Associates; and Pesanti, for Artpark, and the University at Buffalo’s Center for Media Study and Media Study/Buffalo. The Vores capped off the evening with a performance in Clifton Hall.
Wish You Were Here: The Buffalo Avant-garde in the 1970s is on view at the Albright-Knox through Sunday, July 8, 2012. A related symposium—co-organized by the Gallery and the University at Buffalo’s Visual Studies Department—will take place April 14–15. A special first Fridays celebration will take place on Friday, May 4, during M&T FIRST FRIDAYS @ THE GALLERY.
