Summer Preview: M&T FIRST FRIDAYS @ THE GALLERY
June 6, 2012
M&T FIRST FRIDAYS @ THE GALLERY will be as busy as ever this summer, with special performances and lectures planned for July, August, and September, and a new Family Fun Tour offered each month at 11 am.
On Friday, July 6, celebrate the 50th anniversary of Young Audiences of Western New York with a storytelling performance by Rodney Appleby, “Trick the Devil,” and a folk tales performance with Dramatic Solutions and the Wondermakers, “Catch the Reading Bug.” The performances continue at 8:30 pm with Made of Motion: A Concert of Contemporary Dance by Melanie Aceto.
On Friday, August 3, blues and boogie-woogie pianist Matthew Ball presents a fun American Roots program for all ages, with blues and boogie arrangements of classic American songs like “Swanee River,” “Over the Rainbow,” “The Sheik of Araby,” “Bumble Boogie,” “Pinetop’s Boogie Woogie,” and more. You are also invited to participate in Janice Spagnola’s “Possibilities with Puppets,” helping turn an inanimate object into a puppet with personality.
On Friday, September 7, join us for a rare opportunity to hear a lecture by His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios, Archbishop of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, as he discusses the Christian perspective on the afterlife. Later that evening, classical guitarist/composer James Piorkowski will perform work that spans three decades. (Please note that AK Café will be closed on September 7, beginning at 3 pm. There will be no Afternoon Tea and Coffee, Jazz and Happy Hour, or dinner service.)
We will also be hosting our monthly artist-hosted art activity and art classes, except for the Homeschooler Art Classes, which will take a break for the summer and resume on Friday, October 5.
We hope to see you at the Gallery this summer!
The museum is closed. Please visit us tomorrow between 10 am and 5 pm.
