Last Chance to Enter This Year’s Living Art Contest, Art Alive
May 15, 2012
At the Albright-Knox’s annual contest, Art Alive, participants create living representations of famous works of art for great prizes. Anyone can participate, including students, community groups, organizations, families, and individuals. Participants build their stunning replicas—often called tableaux—using people, props, and even music.
More than $1,000 in cash prizes is given to winning tableaux. Judges award points to participants based on degree of difficulty, creativity, interpretation of original artwork, quality, and overall impression. They will award prizes for the Best Tableau from the Gallery’s Collection ($300), the Handyman Award for Best Craftsmanship ($250), and the Off-the-Beaten-Path Award for Most Unusual Entry ($250). Also, for the first time this year, in celebration of the Gallery’s 150th anniversary, the judges will select the Best First-Time Entry ($250).
Spectators can also vote for their favorite tableaux, and will select the People’s Choice Awards in three categories: Grades K–8 ($200), Grades 9–12 ($200), and Adults ($200).
There is still time to sign up if you would like to participate in this year’s contest on Saturday, June 2. Simply complete and submit the Art Alive entry form, and get to work on your tableau! The deadline to register is Friday, May 18.
If you’re not up for re-creating a work of art this year, we hope you’ll join us on June 2, from noon–2 pm, to see the overwhelming creativity on display, and vote for your favorites in the People’s Choice Awards. We will also have music and family art activities, where children of all ages can make something to take home with them.
We hope to see you at the Gallery for Art Alive 2012!
