The Albright-Knox Art Gallery is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Janne Sirén as its eleventh director.
Dr. Sirén is currently director of Finland’s Helsinki Art Museum, one of the largest cultural institutions in the Nordic region. He spent his entire college and university career in the United States, earning an undergraduate degree in art history from the College of the Holy Cross in Massachusetts and master’s and doctoral degrees from the Institute of Fine Arts at New York University.
The first director from the Nordic region to take the helm of a major American art museum, Dr. Sirén believes passionately that the arts and the twenty-first-century museum can be active participants in a vibrant community and its robust growth.
The Albright-Knox currently anticipates that Dr. Sirén will assume his position in late spring or early summer. Interim Director Karen Lee Spaulding will continue to serve in this role until Dr. Sirén arrives in Buffalo.
