Mostly Other People Do The Killing Featured at the Art Of Jazz Series at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery
January 4, 2010
Buffalo, NY – Mostly Other People Do The Killing will perform as part of the 2009–2010 Hunt Real Estate and David Kennedy Art of Jazz Series at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery on Sunday, January 31, 2010, at 3 pm in the Gallery Auditorium. A pre-concert film, Sound?? (1967) by Dick Fontaine, begins at 2 pm. Individual concert tickets are $30. Tickets can be purchased at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery admissions desk or by phone at 716.270.8292. Voted the #1 Rising Star Jazz Group in the 2009 Down Beat International Critics Poll, Mostly Other People Do The Killing is one of the most exciting—and wildly entertaining—jazz ensembles to emerge in years. Bassist Moppa Elliot leads a band that includes 2008 Thelonious Monk Competition winner Jon Irabagon on saxophone, trumpeter Peter Evans, and drummer Kevin Shea with infectious energy and “an impertinent wit that keeps the music fresh and alive” (Troy Collins, allaboutjazz.com). Combining a deep grasp of and respect for the jazz tradition with verve and wit, the group’s most recent album, This Is Our Moosic, has been praised as “one of the most feverishly exuberant jazz albums in recent memory” (Nate Chinen, The New York Times). The Hunt Real Estate and David Kennedy Art of Jazz Series is produced by Bruce Eaton and organized by the Albright-Knox Art Gallery. It is supported, in part, by a generous grant from Hunt Real Estate and David Kennedy. Concerts usually sell out in advance of each performance, so please order tickets early to avoid disappointment. The Gallery’s restaurant, muse, will be open for brunch before the performance; reservations are strongly recommended. Please call 716.270.8223.
The museum is closed. Please visit us tomorrow between 10 am and 5 pm.
