An Evening with Nat King Cole (1961)
Concert, 3 pm
With his first album, Water, having been nominated for a 2011 GRAMMY Award for Best Jazz Vocal Album and grabbing the top spot in the Village Voice Jazz Critics’ Poll for Best Debut of 2010, Gregory Porter has taken the music world by storm. He inspired fellow artist Jamie Cullum to proclaim, “Finally! Another jazz singer with chops and soul to sit alongside the mighty Kurt Elling,” and SoulTracks to note, “Porter may count (Nat King) Cole as his primary influence, but his vocals and his ability to spin a musical yarn call to mind . . . Joe Williams, Jon Hendricks, Lou Rawls, and Kevin Mahogany.” Don’t miss the first area performance by this rapidly ascending vocal star. (www.gregoryporter.com)
Individual concert tickets are $25 for Gallery Members and $29 for non-members. Season tickets, for all four concerts, are available at a discounted rate of $90 for Gallery Members. Tickets can be purchased at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery Admissions Desk or online at MuseumTix.com. Concerts often sell out in advance of each performance, so please order tickets early to avoid disappointment.
AK café serves brunch on Sundays from noon to 3 pm. For reservations, which are highly recommended, please call 716.270.8223.
The 2011–2012 Hunt Real Estate Art of Jazz Series is supported, in part, by a generous grant from Hunt Real Estate. It is produced by Bruce Eaton and organized by the Gallery’s Education Department.
