In conjunction with the exhibition Julie Mehretu: Drawing into Painting, Assistant Curator of Education Kathy Gaye Shiroki designed an interactive space for visitors of all ages. It was artist Julie Mehretu who called her own canvases "story maps of no location," and her description served as the title for this space. Visitors were invited to use paper, pencil, and images from magazines to write a story about a time and place in their memory and share it with others. Visitors hung their story and image together on the wall in the red globe gallery. Another way visitors shared their stories of no location involved standing at the podium and reading their creative writing into the microphone. The story was not only heard by other visitors in the interactive space but also by patrons at a local coffee shop, Spot Coffee. Participants were encouraged to visit Spot Coffee to listen to other peoples stories as well. Attendance: 3,051 |
