This exhibition brought together about one hundred paintings by avant-garde German artists and was the first major survey of contemporary German art in the United States. The artists whose works were included in the exhibition represented many German cities, including Berlin, Munich, Düsseldorf, Dresden, Königsberg, Weimar, Stuttgart, Karlsruhe, and some smaller cities and towns.
