Rembrandt to Rauschenberg: The Norton Print Collection

This exhibition featured an impressive survey of works on paper from the 16th to the 20th century, donated as a major gift from the F. Paul Norton and Frederic P. Norton collection. Selections from the collection of 500 prints were exhibited, accompanied by an exhibition catalogue.

The exhibition featured five centuries of prints by more than 90 artists, including Milton Avery, Leonard Baskin, Paul Cézanne, Albrecht Dürer, James Ensor, William Hogarth, Winslow Holmer, Roy Lichtenstein, René Magritte, Robert Motherwell, Robert Rauschenberg, Odilon Redon, and Rembrandt van Rijn. Within this selection, a wide media was presented, such as etching, aquatint, mezzotint, lithography, screen-printing, linocut, and woodcut.

The Albright-Knox hosted a “Perspectives on Prints” symposium on November 5, featuring Harvey Breverman, Aprile Gallant, Antonio Martorell, Frederic Norton, and Deborah Ronnen, moderated by Curator Kenneth Wayne. This presented five different points of view on printmaking and collecting organized in conjunction with Rembrandt to Rauschenberg and A Walk Through the Paper Forest: Latino Prints and Drawings from El Museo del Barrio.
