This exhibition was the first major survey of Joe Zucker’s work. These unusual, fantastical works were creating using, among other materials, cotton balls saturated in acrylic and/or rhoplex paint and adhered to canvas. Incorporating recognizable imagery, Zucker produced brightly colored works that are rich in meaning and visual texture.
Zucker has consistently been one of America’s most innovative artists for more than four decades. His paintings are personal, quirky, idiosyncratic, and often puzzling. His style is rooted in processes, some simple and others remarkably complex.
This exhibition was organized by Assistant Curator Susan Krane.
