Caught on Camera: 14th Annual Western New York Exhibition

The 14th Annual Western New York Exhibition was held from March 10 to April 4, 1948. This exhibition, to which local and regional artists were invited to submit their work, was judged by artists and museum professionals.

Prizes were awarded in various categories, including oil painting, landscape, watercolor, still life, ceramic, sculpture, drawing, print, children’s art, a painting with unusual distinction, an oil painting showing unusual originality of expression, and a meritorious group of works by one artist. The judges for the 1948 exhibition were Alfred H. Barr, Director of the Museum Collections at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA); the sculptor Ivan Meštrović (Croatian, 1883–1962); and the painter Max Weber (American, 1881–1961).
