About the Innovation Lab

From 2014 to 2020, the museum operated the Innovation Lab, the goal of which was to generate and develop new solutions to challenges confronting museums and society in the 21st century. During that time, the Innovation Lab received numerous grants to pursue projects that explore art and creativity with an interdisciplinary focus. 

Mission

It was the mission of the Innovation Lab to engage a broad-based series of intellectual collaborations across an array of disciplines in the arts, sciences, and technology to explore new ideas and develop solutions to challenges confronting museums and societies locally, regionally, and globally.

Vision

The Innovation Lab served as a catalyst for creativity and innovation that develops new and dynamic approaches to pressing issues in museums and contemporary society. The Lab strived to define new models for museums in the twenty-first century as productive and engaged creative hubs at the center of social and civic vitality.

The Innovation Lab was founded with leadership support from The John R. Oishei Foundation, The Seymour H. Knox Foundation, and the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.
