Join us for a curated open mic event that creates space for the community to share their truths through poetry, music, and other forms of expression. Poetess and spoken word artist GOODNE$$ will emcee the event, which is a culmination of the Explore Your Truths workshop series, presented in conjunction with the special exhibition In These Truths

About the Emcee

There is a large photo of a waterfall behind her.GOODNE$$ is a Buffalo native, mother, grandmother, poetess, and spoken word artist, performing poetry in multiple open mics, events, and festivals throughout Buffalo, Niagara Falls, and Rochester. She’s added actress to her list of many talents, appearing in a total of six local plays: To Kill a Mockingbird, The Unexpected, The Juneteenth Reenactment, Fesito Goes to Market, Seven Faithful Mary’s, and, most recently, 2020’s Typography of Women (I Am Not Invisible).

She is also a visual artist, hosting/debuting her first solo art show in 2021; a former columnist for The Challenger News (2017–2018); and the creator and host of The Citywide Youth Open Mic, as well as The Two Day Inner City Poetry Marathon, which was held In April for National Poetry Month. Her awards include The Rose for Outstanding Women Award in 2019 and The Sistas Sharing Wisdom from Generation to Generation Award in 2016. She is also the self-published author of three poetry books: Naught'etry (nice & naughty poetry) I and II and Inspirational Poetry in Motion (uplifting & inspirational poetry).
