Buffalo, NY – The Albright-Knox Art Gallery’s acclaimed Art of Jazz series will present the Bill Charlap Trio, “the premier jazz piano trio of its time” (The New Yorker), on Saturday, October 26, at 8 pm. Series producer Bruce Eaton will host a pre-concert discussion, “The Elegant Mr. Flanagan,” exploring the life and music of the legendary jazz pianist Tommy Flanagan at 7 pm.

One of the world’s most heralded jazz pianists and a master of the Great American Songbook and classic jazz standards, Bill Charlap has performed and recorded with many of the leading artists of our time, ranging from Wynton Marsalis, Gerry Mulligan, and Phil Woods to singers Diana Krall, Barbra Streisand, and Tony Bennett; in 2015, Charlap won a Grammy with Bennett for their duo album The Silver Lining: The Songs of Jerome Kern. The son of Broadway composer Mark “Moose” Charlap (Peter Pan) and noted singer Sandy Stewart, he has led the Bill Charlap Trio with bassist Peter Washington and drummer Kenny Washington since 1997; today, the group is recognized as “one of the best piano trios ever” (The Guardian).  With its “jaw-dropping level of chemistry” (Jazz At Lincoln Center) and unerring devotion to melody and swing, the trio has garnered multiple Grammy nominations and awards, offering enthralled audiences around the globe “a masterclass in class” (DownBeat).
