Concert, 8 pm
The modern jazz sounds of the Crescent City come to the Queen City for one special evening. Alto saxophonist Donald Harrison is inextricably linked to his native New Orleans for his ability to weave his musical heritage through a highly personal amalgam of jazz styles that include be-bop, Dixieland, hard bop, R&B, and swing. A master singer/dancer in the New Orleans Mardi Gras Indian culture, his acting and musical talents have been a notable part of HBO’s groundbreaking series Treme. Having apprenticed with the jazz legends Roy Haynes and Art Blakey, Harrison is now mentor to the next generation of New Orleans greats, including his current hardswinging band. Individual concert tickets are $25 for Gallery Members and $29 for non-members. Season tickets, for all four concerts, are available at a discounted rate of $90 for Gallery Members. Tickets can be purchased at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery Admissions Desk or online at MuseumTix.com. Concerts often sell out in advance of each performance, so please order tickets early to avoid disappointment.
