Gallery Welcomes Thirteen New Docents
April 6, 2011

After twenty-two Saturday morning training sessions, an art history lecture series, four exams, three papers, and a graduation tour, the Albright-Knox Art Gallery warmly welcomes our thirteen new docents! Their addition brings our total docent corps to nearly one hundred dedicated, knowledgeable, and talented individuals from a wide range of ages and a diversity of professions.
The major responsibility of our newest docents will be to provide interactive and fun tours for the kindergarten through twelfth grade students who visit the Gallery as part of the Art’scool program. Art’scool provides free tours and a transportation subsidy to school groups, and is made possible through the generosity of BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York.
Although the docent course is offered only every other year, training for our tour guides does not end with their graduation. Since exhibitions and installations change frequently, and the Gallery continues to acquire works of contemporary art, additional training is offered for every special exhibition and sessions are held on the second Saturday of every month to review tour techniques and introduce docents to the latest works entering the Gallery’s Collection. Docents also enjoy a fall dinner and spring reception, along with the opportunity to participate in a variety of trips and other activities.
If you are interested in becoming part of this outstanding group, watch the website for information about the 2012–13 docent class. Applications will be available online by March 2012.
