Join us for a virtual screening of a film selected by artist Patrick Martinez for its relationship to the themes of Comunidades Visibles: The Materiality of Migration

In Los Angeles in 1992, after a brief car chase, police pulled over unarmed Rodney King from his car and brutally beat him. The incident was captured by a photographer living nearby and his was released to the news media, unleashing an unparalleled series of marches, protests, and rioting. In news footage and photographs from that time, the critically acclaimed film LA 92, from Academy Award winners Dan Lindsay and TJ Martin, tells the story of King’s arrest, beating, and trial, and the subsequent events that shook the city of Los Angeles to its core.

About the Series

Join the Albright-Knox for a series of virtual film screenings inspired by the themes of the special exhibition Comunidades Visibles: The Materiality of Migration. Throughout this series, participants will hear from community speakers and educators who are exploring the ways narratives around migration, as well as personal and communal histories, are discussed through various media. View Series Schedule

En Los Ángeles en 1992, después de una breve persecución en automóvil, la policía detuvo a Rodney King, quien estaba desarmado, de su automóvil y lo golpeó brutalmente. El incidente fue capturado por un fotógrafo que vivía cerca y entrego las fotos a los medios de comunicación, desencadenando una serie sin precedentes de marchas, protestas y disturbios.
