Artwork by student at International Preparatory School at Grover

Education Exhibition Hallway

This exhibition features artwork from two of Buffalo’s diverse schools: International Preparatory School at Grover and South Park High School. The artwork displayed is a cumulative collection of the past year’s learning.

South Park High School, located in South Buffalo is a community high school in the Buffalo Public Schools. The work displayed here is a melting pot of our visual arts curriculum as well as our school environment. The classes represented include Studio Art, Crafts, Drawing and Painting, Introduction to Fashion, Advanced Fashion, and Community-based 6:1:1. Students’ abilities range from beginner to advanced, which means the measure of success is often in a students’ willingness to try something new.

Our population canvases the city of Buffalo and its diverse neighborhoods and cultures. The students’ experiences and backgrounds have influenced them in the way they interpret and stylize each of our lessons. Each piece is a personal reflection. The work shown includes realistic representations of their hometown, self-portraits and self-awareness, surrealistic visions, influences of African American culture, and academic drawing studies. Their art is as diverse and unique as the artists behind it and gives viewers a glimpse into the lives of South Park students.
